Artist Statement
My work is fundamentally the exploration of space. Whether it be the simplistic renderings of an object (Braid & Well series). Which allows the viewer to see movement on paper or the psychological space of relationships using an emotional object (Fetus Series – works in progress and Father series – starting in 2019).
My interest in the Braid & Well series began as a curiosity of how to relate to a simple line, a simple drawn object. How do I relate with a golden braid in one position versus another? It was an examination of space through simplicity. Then later by introducing a more complex psychological examination of space; a similar question is asked. How do I engage in the desire for children (Fetus series – work progress)?
My creative process starts with curiosity and exploring how to communicate an idea through “sense”. I use the traditional forms of expression; paper, pencil and paint because it forms a boundary that allows me to closely hone in and identify the elements needed to convey the “feeling”. Although I began using simple geometric shapes; I’ve study the figure and look forward to working with it in the series in progress Fetus and the Father series in 2019.
The ultimate expression of my work points to the expression of life. A life living through different spaces.
Thank you for listening.
